Open Records provide a mechanism for citizens to inspect or copy government records. It also provides for instances in which governmental bodies may elect to, or are required by law to, withhold government records from the public. Open records request can be made by email, mail, or fax.
The Public Information Act (the “PIA”) as a result of the 2019 Texas Legislative Session is the creation of section 552.235 of the Government Code. Section 552.235 requires the Office of the Attorney General (the “OAG”) to create a public information request form for use by Texas governmental bodies. This form may be used when requesting open records.
When requesting open records please make your request as detailed as possible so that your request can be filled in a timley matter.
